In our Facebook group Crying Babies, we offer parents the opportunity to network, exchange ideas, vent their sorrows, share their cutest baby photos with others, and of course, ask questions. Time and again, the question is asked there whether the baby might be ill if it cries so much.

In most cases, you can rest assured. Usually, there is no illness behind it, and intolerances and allergies are also comparatively rare.

Our Facebook group "Crying Babies" – the place for your questions and concerns

Where large family networks used to be able to give parents help and support, other structures are needed today. An opportunity to make new contacts and form new, valuable friendships is our Facebook group "Crying Baby". There you will meet nice people who are in a similar situation to you. You can then support each other, talk about your experiences, and of course, connect offline. Together, you'll manage just fine.

My baby cries so much. Is it sick?

We would like to address one of the most frequent questions asked on Facebook directly here.

Most parents of a crying baby probably ask themselves at some point whether the frequency and intensity of the crying is still normal or whether their offspring might be sick. They fear that if the little one cries so much and for so long, something simply must be wrong.

Yes and no

It is completely normal for babies to cry when they are missing something: when they are tired, when they are hungry, when Mom or Dad should finally come and pick them up, when the diaper is full or the bottom is sore, and so on. And of course: they also cry when they are sick.

But especially with crying babies, the crying has a completely different reason, at least in the vast majority of cases. Namely, that they are completely overwhelmed by all the stimuli acting on them. To make matters worse, all that crying also leads to your baby swallowing air, which leads to painful flatulence, causing the child to cry even more.

Only in 5% of all cases is there actually a physical cause

It is suspected that in about 5% of all cases, a physical cause for the crying is actually found. To be absolutely sure, you should of course take your baby to the doctor to rule out any illness. Simply dismissing it with the motto: "The baby just cries a lot, it'll pass," would be a bit daring, not to say irresponsible.

The doctor will examine your child from head to toe. If it turns out that they are perfectly healthy, the crying consequently has other causes. In such a case, you probably actually have a crying baby. Then your child is suffering from so-called regulation disorders and has difficulty processing the many sensory impressions of the day

You can't really "treat" a crying baby

As reassuring as it may be on the one hand to know that nothing else is wrong with the baby, it also makes you feel helpless at the same time, because you simply cannot "treat" a crying baby.

Keep your chin up: if your child is not sick, the crying phase will definitely pass at some point!

Until then, a swing2sleep can be an invaluable help!
